Product description :

Introduction: Ever found yourself sitting in a meeting where you are terrified in case anybody asks you a question because you have no idea what they are talking about. Shales, sedimentary rock, basement rock, basins, anticlines, faults, limestone, azimuth, LWD, MWD, MPD, LMPR, BOP, annular, BHA……...words are flying all over the meeting room and you are struck so dumb like a deer caught in the headlights. You know nothing about the oilfield except for the part you play in the grand scheme of things. Sounds familiar? Fear not. Been there many times myself, so here is a quick crash guide for the construction of an oil well you can read before you head into that pre-spud meeting…………. What is a spudding? This is the term used to start drilling a new well. It is the drill section they use. Like most of the terms that is used in the oilfield, the words originate mostly from agricultural terms. Spud was a tool used for digging up potatoes. Typically, an oil company has the rights to a lease where there is an oilfield. The oil company then needs a drilling contractor to drill the well, a cementing company to cement, a mud company for drilling fluids, a mud logging company for analysis of cuttings to surface, directional drilling company if they are going to drill a deviated hole, logging company if they are going log the well and completion company for completions. So, with all these different companies, a meeting is usually held to coordinate and plan for all these stages. This book is designed to help those who are new to the oilfield and some that wish to know a little more about the other rig operations that are going on.
